The story of R-Type is one of survival and sacrifice. The player takes on the role of a pilot fighting against an alien force known as the "Iris." The Iris, which resembles a cross between a butterfly and a dragonfly, threaten humanity's existence, and it's up to the pilot to stop them. With limited resources and no clear way to defeat the enemy, the pilot must rely on instinct and quick reflexes to navigate through increasingly difficult levels.

Gameplay in R-Type is fast-paced and action-packed. The player controls the pilot as they fly through a series of challenging levels, dodging enemy fire and trying to destroy the Iris while avoiding obstacles such as laser beams and treacherous terrain. With the help of limited power-ups and upgrades, the player must stay one step ahead of their enemies in order to progress.


