Donkey Kong Jr., originally released in 1982 for arcades, is an action-adventure game where players take on the role of Donkey Kong Jr. , whose father has been kidnapped by Mario. The objective is to navigate through four levels - Vines, Springboard, Chains and Mario's Hideout - to find keys and rescue his father.
The gameplay involves avoiding obstacles such as Snapjaws, purple birds that swoop down to attack, and electric sparks sent by Mario. Junior can defend himself by dropping fruit on enemies, which scores bonus points for a falling sequence. The player can also avoid enemies by grabbing hold of chains or vines to climb away faster or jump over them.
Each level is cleared once the keys are found, but the game gets progressively harder as it restarts with increased difficulty after completing all four levels. With the help of his father, Junior defeats Mario and escapes in the final cut scene, giving players a satisfying conclusion to their quest.
