Ringo Andou's ordinary life at school takes a drastic turn when she encounters rainbow-colored jellies raining from the sky. With the help of Arle Nadja, Ringo learns about Puyo and sets out to stop a mysterious force threatening humanity.

Puyo Puyo 7 features a unique storytelling approach, with the story mode divided into six acts of varying episode counts as Ringo travels through different locations, battling opponents in Puyo battles. The gameplay is similar to previous titles, offering five distinct game modes and multiple areas to navigate.

The game also includes a battle mode where players can compete against each other, with options for up to four or eight players depending on the console version. Classic rules such as Original Puyo, Puyo Puyo 2, and Fever are available in 8-player games.
