After Burst is a platformer where you play as a fighting robot tasked with destroying an orb at the end of each level. However, before that can happen, you must clear obstacles such as wandering robots, platforming challenges, and small puzzles. The robot has a gun to aid in its destruction, which can be adjusted for angle and firing distance by holding the fire button longer.
Gameplay involves walking, jumping, and using the robot's gun to overcome level objectives. Each level has a time limit, and some feature bosses that must be defeated. There is also a duel mode where two opponents - either controlled by a human or AI - fight each other in levels shown from the side.
