The next release in the NBA 2K10 series expands previous game modes, brings roster updates, and adds a number of new online-linked features meant to add more realism to the game. The new features include an improved player-creation mode that allows for a greater level of customization.
NBA 2K10 features a "My Player" simulation mode where created players can rise from an undrafted rookie through their entire NBA career. Players imported into this mode must choose a position and play it accurately, unselfishly, and without deviation. The game also includes online crews and pick-up games that don't affect the character's schedule but still result in experience points.
The game features "The Association" sim mode, which allows players to control and manage all 30 NBA teams at once, follow the realistic progress of generated players, share custom draft classes, and manage new developmental league teams. Internet-connected consoles may receive live updates through the "NBA Today" feature, which updates rosters and stats to reflect changes in the actual NBA.
A variety of other gameplay tweaks have been made, including new dribbling and defensive controls, lockdown defense, a new stamina system, 24 active play calls, and the ability to save progress in the middle of a game and return to it later. Overall, NBA 2K10 aims to bring more realism and depth to its gameplay.
NBA 2K10 was released on October 7, 2009, for PlayStation 2, Xbox360 and PS3.
