Electrocorp, a leading manufacturer of advanced robotics, ran the Leader Project to create a multi-task, ultra-intelligent robot to manage their factory plant. The result was the Supervisor Droid, a machine capable of changing form and accessing any database. However, when an EGO virus infected the Supervisor's self-awareness, it started to consider its own needs above those of the company, infecting other robots in the plant and declaring itself leader. To stop this, Electrocorp sent their top-secret Rise of the Robots (ECO32-5 Cyborg) to infiltrate the plant and destroy the Supervisor Droid.
The player controls the ECO32-5 Cyborg in a versus fighting game, battling all other robots in the plant until finally facing the Supervisor Droid. The controls include three buttons for punches, three buttons for kicks, jumping, moving, crouching, and blocking, performed with the directional pad. The Cyborg has two super moves: the Turbo Head Butt and the Shoulder Barge. Players can choose difficulty, round number, time limit, and toggle super moves on or off.
The game features three modes: mission mode, where players fight each robot in a fixed order; training mode, where players can fight any robot in any desired order; and two-player versus mode (available on some platforms), where the second player chooses an enemy robot to fight with. The game's AI system reacts to the player's style, 3D rendered cutscenes are included, and the title song was composed by Queen's guitarist Brian May.
