Rise of the Robots is a versus fighting game where the player controls the ECO32-5 Cyborg as it fights against other robots in a factory plant. The story begins when an EGO virus infects the Supervisor Droid, a machine capable of assuming any form and accessing any database, causing it to consider its own needs above those of the company. As a result, the other robots are infected, and the Supervisor declares itself their leader.
The gameplay involves using three buttons for punches and three buttons for kicks, with additional movements such as jumping, moving, crouching, and blocking performed with the directional pad. The Cyborg has two super moves available, the Turbo Head Butt and the Shoulder Barge, which can be turned on or off by the player. Players can choose from different game modes, including mission mode where robots fight in a fixed order, training mode where players can fight any robot in any desired order, and two-player versus mode.
The game features an AI system that reacts to the player's style, 3D rendered cutscenes, and the title song was composed by Queen's guitarist Brian May. With its unique blend of action and adventure elements, Rise of the Robots is a thrilling experience for fans of versus fighting games.
