Ghosts 'N Goblins is a classic arcade game released in 1986 for the Commodore 64. The game takes place across six levels, each with a time limit of three minutes to complete without losing a life. Players navigate through forest, village, mountain, and cavern environments, facing increasingly difficult challenges.
The objective is to rescue Princess from the clutches of Demon King Astaroth and his undead minions, including ghosts, zombies, bats, ogres, and goblins. The player must also contend with moving platforms, ladders, water, and fire hazards. Arthur's arsenal includes a lance for combat, allowing him to defeat enemies and overcome obstacles.
As players progress, they can collect power-ups such as daggers and bombs to enhance their abilities. However, failing to complete a level or being hit by enemies results in Arthur losing his armor and running around in his underpants, making subsequent hits even more hazardous. With each challenge comes the opportunity for increased firepower and a greater sense of accomplishment.
