Astérix and the Great Rescue was released in 1994 for the Sega Game Gear console. The game follows the story of Asterix and Obelix as they try to rescue their friends Getafix and Dogmatix from the Romans.
To succeed, players must navigate through five levels of platforming action, each with its own unique challenges. The levels take place in Gaul, a Roman encampment, the forest, a Roman galley, and the city of Rome itself. Along the way, players can switch between Asterix and Obelix, who have different abilities that can be used to overcome obstacles.
Asterix can move faster, jump higher, and crouch to get into tight spaces. He also has access to magic potions that can give him special powers, such as levitation, bomb-throwing, and disguise. Obelix, on the other hand, has a more powerful punch and can use his bouncy jumps to destroy enemies or break through barriers.
Players can collect various pick-ups throughout the levels, including coins, money bags for points, health power-ups like chickens and chalices, temporary invisibility with a sickle, super-strength with the Mega symbol, and extra lives represented by a red heart. The game also features a password system that allows players to restart from any of the five main levels.
