Ugetsu Kitan , a Japanese adventure game, brings together loosely connected mystery/horror stories based on the old book of supernatural tales Ugetsu Monogatari .
The game follows a young girl as she guides the player through various stories, including several based on Ugetsu Monogatari , with additional vignettes from the original scenario in between.
In the PlayStation version of Ugetsu Kitan , the introduction and some gameplay elements differ significantly from the PC-98 version. The player starts by waking up in a hospital, then jumps from the roof and is guided to a tent filled with Japanese mythical creatures. This version features digitized photographs and prerendered 3D CGI graphics, giving it a distinct visual style compared to the pixel art of the original.
