Squeeze Box is an action-adventure game where your goal is to escape from prison. To achieve this, you need to blast your way through a wall on either side of the screen and create a hole large enough to walk through. Once the hole is formed, you can escape to the next screen. However, the walls are constantly growing, making the game more challenging. If you touch a wall, you will lose a life.

The gameplay involves shooting down moving blocks on one side of the wall while avoiding contact with the stationary or growing wall on the other side. The goal is to create rows of white blocks by destroying all the colored ones. Each row changes color and grows again when destroyed, but once all rows have been changed, you move on to the next level. There are two difficulty levels for each game variation, increasing the number of blocks and making the game harder.
