The gravitational force of a new threat surfaces on the planet Menon, home to the evil Menon empire. As a result, the balance is disrupted in the Fantasy Zone, setting the stage for Opa-Opa's next adventure. Opa-Opa receives devastating news: his father, O-Papa, has been fatally wounded by the Menon forces. With this heavy loss, Opa-Opa vows to destroy the Menon empire and seek revenge against those responsible.
Players take control of Opa-Opa as he navigates a 2D game world that scrolls freely. The objective is to locate and eliminate enemy generators in each level, employing classic arcade shooter tactics before facing off against a formidable boss. Upon completing a level successfully, players can visit an upgrade shop to spend their coins on enhancements for their ship.
Key changes to the gameplay experience include the removal of automatic orientation control, which was present in previous titles but absent from this iteration. The Mega Drive's additional buttons are leveraged to create more extensive control mapping options. Furthermore, a wider array of weapons and items become available for Opa-Opa to upgrade his ship with.
