Virtua Racing was a pioneering title that brought 3D racing to the masses. Players took the wheel of sleek, high-performance vehicles and competed against others or the clock on one of three increasingly challenging tracks. While inspired by Formula-1 cars, the gameplay itself leaned more towards arcade-style fun.
The Sega Mega Drive version of Virtua Racing stood out as a notable release, thanks to its innovative use of the SVP chip. This custom-built 3D processor gave each cartridge its own dedicated processing power, setting it apart from other consoles at the time. The Megadrive's limited 3D capabilities were largely overcome by this clever solution.
