The Decathlon is a series of Olympic games similar to the Epyx games series. Up to four players can compete in the ten different events of a real-life decathlon, either in sequence or individually. Included are the 100-meter dash, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400-meter race, 110-meter hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw, and 1500-meter race.
The gameplay involves simple joystick waggling and button pressing to achieve success in each event. Flat running events require balancing joystick movements with accurate timing to clear hurdles without loss of momentum. For jumping and throwing events, building momentum by waggling the joystick is necessary, followed by a precise button press at the right moment.
Points are awarded based on performance in each event, determining the overall winner of the decathlon. The player scoring the most points wins the gold medal, while others compete for silver and bronze medals.
