One of the Game Boy Advance's launch titles from Majesco, F-14 Tomcat , is essentially a port of Absolute Entertainment's 1994 SNES game Turn and Burn: No-Fly Zone. The game content is exactly the same, but it features a multiplayer mode between other systems and a brand new storyline: the player controls a F-14 pilot chosen by the US government to be assigned in the theater of operations of a war between the republics of China and Taiwan to protect America's interests in the region.
The gameplay involves completing missions, engaging in dogfights, and landing on aircraft carriers. The game includes a landing practice mode, similar to Turn and Burn, and was later implemented in Majesco's two following GBA flight sims: Super Hornet F/A-18F and F24 Stealth Fighter, which re-used this game's engine, with the option of selecting between a landing carrier or a landing strip.
The gameplay is action-packed, requiring quick reflexes to navigate through the skies. With multiple difficulty levels and a variety of enemy planes to contend with, players must use their skills to emerge victorious in each mission.

Set against the backdrop of rising geopolitical tensions in the South China Sea, this military simulation task you with enforcing a strict no-fly zone and executing strategic carrier-based strikes. You must maintain high combat readiness to neutralize hostile threats, specifically targeting a regional nation's offensive operations involving Soviet-made MiG-29s. Your objective is to deter aggression and maintain regional peace through overwhelming aerial superiority and decisive military action.
Story
Briefing: Presidential Order #67
Recent events in the South China Sea area of operations have caused significant political and military instability. To prevent further deterioration, the President has declared the surrounding airspace closed to all military and civilian traffic. This measure aims to stem the flow of military supplies and other stores into the region.
Naval aviators operating in this zone must remain at full combat readiness at all times. The airspace is effectively a free-fire zone; any aircraft entering will be assumed to have hostile intent. Aviators are authorized to neutralize any such threats using all means at their disposal.
Intelligence reports indicate that a regional nation intends to test the President's resolve by conducting offensive air operations. The bulk of this nation's air power consists of former Soviet-produced aircraft, chiefly top-of-the-line MiG-29s.
In addition to the air defense mandate, a series of strategic strikes will be executed within your carrier's sphere of influence. These actions are intended to emphasize military presence and deter all future hostilities.
The President has expressed confidence in the Navy's ability to successfully maintain peace in this volatile region. As Secretary, you are assured that your training has prepared you for this mission and that you will execute your orders superbly.
How to Play
PREFLIGHT CHECKLIST
Before heading up on deck, please begin with the following steps:
•
Turn off your Game Boy Advance System, then insert the F-14 TOMCAT Game Pak into your Game Boy Advance System.
•
Turn on your Game Boy Advance System. In a few moments the Majesco Logo Screen should appear.
•
Press START until the Main Option Screen appears.
If nothing appears on the screen, turn the power switch OFF and check to make sure the Game Pak is inserted correctly, then try again. Always turn the power switch OFF before inserting or removing the Game Pak.
WARGAME PREPARATIONS
To play F-14 TOMCAT in multi-player head-to-head Wargame Mode, each player must have their own Game Boy Advance System and a copy of the F-14 TOMCAT Game Pak. You will also need from 1 to 3 Game Boy Advance Game Link Cables (sold separately).
Linking Up
•
Each player should turn off their Game Boy Advance System, then insert the F-14 TOMCAT Game Pak into their system.
•
Connect the Game Boy® Advance Game Link® Cable to each system. Two pilots require one cable, three pilots require two cables, and four pilots require three cables.
•
Turn on the Game Boy® Advance Systems. In a few moments you will see the Majesco Logo Screen.
•
After the Majesco Logo Screen appears, press START until the Main Options Screen appears.
LAUNCH PROCEDURES
Once your F-14 is positioned onto one of the two steam-propelled catapults at the back of the Carrier, the Flight Officer will motion you to throttle up your engines.
•
Press the B Button and UP on the Control Pad simultaneously until the thrust level reaches 210%.
•
When you are saluted by the Flight Officer, the ship's catapult mechanism will be engaged, launching your F-14 from the flight deck.
Pilot's Advisory: In Novice Mode, the launch procedure will occur automatically.
MAIN OPTIONS SCREEN
From the Main Options Screen you can select either the Novice or Ace settings for game play, enter a password to return to a specific mission, or practice landing on the Carrier.
To select an option, press the Control Pad UP or DOWN to highlight the desired option, then press the A Button to select it.
•
New Game: Select this option to play F-14 TOMCAT in one player mission mode.
•
Multi-Player: Selecting this option allows 2, 3, or 4 players to go head-to-head in an aerial death-match.
•
Enter Password: Selecting this option displays the Password Entry Screen. Refer to the "PASSWORDS" section of this manual for more information.
•
Game Options: Selecting this option displays the Game Options Screen. Refer to the "GAME OPTIONS SCREEN" section of this manual for more information.
•
Practice Landing: This option allows you to practice landing your aircraft on the practice Carrier. It is recommended that you execute a series of successful landings before attempting an actual mission.
GAME OPTIONS SCREEN
On the Game Options Screen you can customize the controller configuration and select either the Novice or Ace settings.
Controller Configuration
To customize the controller configuration, press UP on the Control Pad to highlight the Controls Option. Press the Control Pad to the RIGHT or LEFT to change how your aircraft responds to the control stick.
Difficulty Settings
To change the difficulty setting, press DOWN on the Control Pad to highlight the Difficulty Option. Press the Control Pad to the RIGHT or LEFT to change between Novice and Ace Modes. The table below illustrates the differences between modes.

NAVAL WARGAMES
Armed with an unlimited supply of F-14s, players are pitted against each other in a vicious free-for-all competition. The objective is to seek-and-destroy all other F-14s while avoiding your own destruction.
Pilot's Advisory: Please refer to the “WARGAME PREPARATIONS” section of this Flight Manual before attempting to play F-14 Tomcat in multi-player mode.
Setting up a Wargame
Before starting a multi-player game, the players must decide on the competition parameters. After all the parameters are set, all players must press START to confirm the settings and to begin the competition.
•
A “Player Ready” message will appear for players who have reported in.
•
A “Waiting for Player” message will appear for players who have not reported in.
•
The game will not start until all players have reported in.
The following parameters are available in Multi-player Mode:
•
Name: This option allows players to enter their initials. Press the Control Pad LEFT or RIGHT to view the available letters, and press the A Button to place them on the Name Entry Line. Select the “LEFT FACING ARROW” to remove the previously entered letter.
•
Time Limit: This option determines how long the competition will last. Set the timer to “NO LIMIT” to play the game without the issue of time.
•
Kill Limit: This option determines how many kills a player must have to be declared

Pulse Doppler Search (PDS) Mode
Pulse Doppler Search (PDS) radar gives the pilot a close-up view in front of the aircraft.
Track While Search (TWS) Mode
The Track While Search (TWS) radar is the longest-range, tactical radar available, while PDS mode displays a wide, overhead view of the area around the F-14.
THE NAVIGATIONAL COMPUTER
The Navigation Computer is an on-board system that acts as an aid to navigation, displaying an arrow-shaped indicator on the HUD to guide the pilot toward a targeted signature.
Targeting Signatures
On the AWACS Operational Radar Grid you can view the signature of any contact by targeting it, using the A Button repeatedly to cycle through contacts or following moving icons to bring off-screen signatures into view.
Way Points
Way Points are a series of points on the AWACS Grid from which your aircraft can fire an AGM-86B Cruise Missile, and the Navigational Computer helps you hone in on their radar signatures.
Maneuvering on the AWACS Operational Radar Grid
While on the AWACS Operational Radar Grid you may maneuver your F-14 using the Control Pad to bank the aircraft and the B Button to vary flight speed.
Mission Status
You may review Mission Orders, Objectives, current password, and available lives on the AWACS Grid by pressing L or R, though viewing the grid does not pause the mission.
Programming Tomahawk Missiles
To launch the AGM-86B, maneuver to the appropriate Way Point using the Navigational Computer, select the missile using the B and R/L Buttons, and press A to launch.
Detonating Tomahawk Missiles
When an AGB-86B Cruise Missile reaches its detonation range, select it on the Weapons Status Display and press A to transmit the detonation code.
Avoiding Enemy Ordnance
To avoid an enemy missile, fly extreme banking and altitude changes, which causes the warning tone to cease and the ECM display to disappear when out of danger.
Surface To Air Missile (SAMs)
Stay alert for SAMs fired from submarines, tanks, and SCUD launchers, which trigger Enemy Lock-On Indicators and require the same evasion techniques as air-deployed missiles.
Damage
If defensive maneuvers fail, an enemy missile will impact and damage your F-14, destroying it after a fifth hit in Novice Mode or a third hit in Ace Mode.
Carrier Protection
Enemy bogeys may disengage to attack your carrier, causing damage that can sink the vessel and abort the mission if it sustains enough hits.
Combat Tactics
Reduce engine thrust to 50% in combat to increase maneuverability, fire the M61A1 Vulcan guns in short bursts to avoid overheating, and aim toward the front of the carrier runway when landing.
F-14 TOMCAT SPECIFICATIONS
The F-14 Tomcat has a maximum speed of Mach 2.34 at altitude, is powered by two Pratt and Whitney TF30-414 Turbofans, and carries armament including the M61A1 Vulcan cannon and various air-to-air missiles.
Items & Weapons
Weapon System Selection
To cycle through available weapons, press the B Button then the R or L Button repeatedly on the Main Cockpit Screen. Select a weapon to fire using the A Button, aiming missiles by maneuvering the sight dot onto the target and waiting for a steady lock-on tone.
M61A1 "Vulcan" 20mm Cannon
Mounted on the left nose, this cannon fires 6,000 rounds per minute for close-range destruction. It should be used in short bursts to prevent overheating, which will cause the M61 reading on the display to flash until cooled.
AIM-9 "Sidewinder" Missiles
These short-range, heat-seeking missiles use hot jet exhaust to track targets and are self-guided after launch. They are considered the most accurate and effective weapon system due to their ease of tracking in cold skies.
AIM-7 "Sparrow" Missiles
These compact, mid-range radar-guided missiles can be carried without compromising the F-14's performance. They can only acquire a target when closing in on the aircraft.
AIM-54 "Phoenix" Missiles
Exclusive to the F-14, these long-range radar-guided missiles lock onto distant radar signatures to guarantee destruction without visual contact. They are effective from close to extreme range and can be launched after targeting the bogey on the AWACS Grid.
AGM-86B "Tomahawk" Missiles
Equipped with a 1,000 lb conventional high explosive warhead and a Special Terrain Navigational Computer, these are the most sophisticated weapons in the arsenal. They require pre-programmed topography and can only be fired from specific Way Points.
