The Salt Lake 2002 game is based on the 2002 Winter Olympic Games and offers a unique experience for Game Boy Advance players. The handheld version has its own selection of events, with graphics and controls tailored to suit the console's capabilities.
In this action-packed game, six different disciplines are available: Ski Jumping, Curling, Downhill Skiing, Bobsleigh, Snowboarding, and Downhill Slalom. Players can compete in Tournament Mode, where they select one event and aim to best their opponent's scores, or participate in Olympic Mode for medals, with the goal of achieving gold by exceeding a certain score. The game also features Classic Mode, which requires players to complete all six events in order, as well as Time Trial/ghost mode, where players can try to beat their previous records.
Each discipline has its own unique perspective and controls, including jumping, which demands balance by keeping a red dot in a targeting reticle and then pushing a button for a good landing. Downhill, slalom, and snowboard events are similar, with an overhead perspective that allows athletes to crouch for acceleration, break, and make hard turns. Bobsleigh is controlled from a side view, while Curling is seen from a side view, where players control both the throw and the sweepers.
