The overworld sections of Cauldron resemble standard shoot 'em ups, as your broom is unaffected by gravity and can fire bullets using your magic energy. However, encountering creatures like bats, fireballs, and seagulls will drain more energy than shooting at them would. Energy replenishment stations are available.
Once you descend into the underground sections, Cauldron 's gameplay becomes a test of precision platform jumping, reminiscent of Manic Miner. The six underground areas can be completed in various orders, but some points may require items from other sections, necessitating backtracking. You start with nine lives, which will dwindle quickly at first.
