This hockey game is a follow-up to NHL Blades of Steel '99 , featuring real NHL teams and players. The game modes include an Exhibition mode, Season, and Playoffs. Players can set various options such as difficulty levels for the computer opponent and opposing goalie, length of periods, overtime duration, penalties, and more.
Gameplay features allow players to perform moves like passing, stealing, taking shots, throwing body checks, and more. The game also offers different camera viewpoints when viewing action, including TV, Chase, Move, Top, On Ice, Normal, and others.
In the Season mode, players can choose the number of games to be played, from 7 to 82. Playoffs can be set to a one-game affair or an expanded series. During the season, team and free-agent players can also be traded, with full statistical tracking.
The game is narrated by Randy Hahn, delivering the play-by-play commentary.
