NHL Powerplay '96 is an early competitor to the EA Sports NHL series. The game features motion-captured players, an NHL Player’s Association license, a variety of managerial options, and the ability to play seasons and tournaments.
The game includes a World Tournament mode where the NHL players can compete against each other on their respective national teams. This was a unique feature at the time.
Released in 1997 for the Playstation console, NHL Powerplay '96 is one of the first full 3D sports games on the market. The game sticks to the most popular camera angle used by players and other popular sports games at the time.
