Robo Pit is an arena fighter where you build your own mechanical gladiator. You get to choose the color, body, eyes, and legs for your robot. While most of these choices are just for show, the legs you pick do affect how fast and agile your fighter is, as well as its special attack.
Once you've created your robotic brawler, it's time to climb the ranks. To progress, you have to fight the robot that's occupying the rank above yours. When you beat them, you get an arm and can move up. The game continues like this until you've defeated all the other combatants. However, there are some surprises along the way. You can acquire different arms, from swords to cannons, which get faster and more effective the more you use them. There's also a "boss" robot that uses special weapons that only it has access to. Defeating these bosses gives you an advantage in the rest of your fights.
The arenas are simple but varied, offering different layouts and obstacles for cover or surprise attacks. The fighting is straightforward but effective. You use the left arm for square and circle attacks, the right arm for jumping, and the special attack triggers with the X button, which charges up as you use it more. Different weapons have their own ranges and timing, which improve as you master them.
