Rainbow Islands is a game where Bubby and his brother Bobby travel to the Rainbow Islands in search of treasure, but instead find that the people have been kidnapped. Now it's up to Bubby with his rainbow power to save them.

The gameplay of Rainbow Islands involves navigating through the islands, collecting colored diamonds, and defeating bosses to earn rewards. The player can collect big diamonds by spelling out the word RAINBOW on each island, which unlocks special cutscenes where the player can choose to interact with characters or open treasure boxes for items.

The game has some key differences compared to its predecessor. It is a solo-player experience, with levels laid out differently than in the original. Additionally, collecting all 7 big diamonds unlocks an extra island based on Bubble Bobble, which offers new gameplay opportunities.
