Overlord: Dark Legend is a prequel to Overlord, redesigned for the Wii.
You control young Lord Gromgard as he reclaim his father's duchy, which has been taken over by elves, dwarfs and bandits. His older brother and sister plan to usurp his power on his sixteenth birthday, but he is given a suit of armor that belonged to his uncle, the Black Baron, allowing him to take his place as the Overlord.
The gameplay revolves around manipulating minions with the Wiimote and moving the overlord himself with the Nunchuck. You'll summon four types of minions: browns, reds, blues and greens, each with unique abilities. Minions collect weapons and armor from enemies and use them to improve their skills.
Game progression is represented by a map, where each section has its own sub-map showing minion summoning sites, mana pits, blood pits and teleportation sites. The overlord can teleport to any site he's previously visited. Progression is controlled by barriers that require a certain number of minions or specific items to pass.
As you progress through the game, you'll find items like minion relics, health relics, mana relics, forges, spell relics and hives. These items will increase your maximum minions, health or mana bar, and give you access to new spells and minion types.
Spells can be direct attacks, boosts to your minions' abilities, or handicaps to enemies, draining your mana in the process.
