SSX Tricky is EA's follow-up to SSX. The game features more storytelling than the original, with characters developing rivalries based on their personality attributes. This leads to more aggressive behavior during races.

The gameplay in SSX Tricky is focused on extreme sports, with players competing in high-speed racing and trick-based challenges. The übertrick system adds a new layer of complexity, requiring players to perform increasingly difficult tricks to earn rewards. The game features seven returning tracks, as well as six brand-new ones, with up to four times more shortcuts and hidden lines than before.

The soundtrack includes mixes by Mix Master Mike, Aphrodite, and the Plump DJs. DVD-like bonuses feature "behind-the-scenes" footage and a "making of" segment.
