Chaos ensues in 2191 as something goes wrong with the master computer that controls the planet. Players take control of Steve Treiber who must destroy the Power Blazer . The game is a side-scrolling platformer where the player has to jump and fight their way through seven futuristic levels.
The player's character, Steve Treiber, is equipped with a powerful boomerang. The range of the boomerang is limited by an energy bar which is fully depleted and then slowly recharged after the boomerang is thrown. Power-ups can improve the boomerang's range. A more powerful boomerang that can be thrown through enemies can also be picked up, along with other items like smart bombs and energy containers.
Each level has a boss-fight at the end. The first six levels can be played in any order. Once they are cleared, the final level is revealed. When the game is paused, selected items can be used at any time to aid in progression.
Power Blazer was released on April 20th, 1990 for the Famicom console and falls under the genre of Action & Adventure.
