The Walking Dead: Season Two game continues the story of Clementine and her struggles to survive in a world filled with walkers. The series is based on the comic books, not the TV series, and follows the survivors' attempts to find safety and interaction.
The gameplay is largely similar to the first game, but with some key differences. Clementine is weaker than Lee and often finds herself on the defensive. The player's decisions have significant consequences, influencing the rest of the game and even interacting with choices made in the previous game.
A main aspect of the game is making difficult choices within a time limit. These decisions can range from small to major, affecting other characters and influencing the story. The game also reacts to decisions made in the first game when a savegame is imported.
Clementine has opportunities to explore areas, interact with items or people, and reach her next goal. The game uses a mix of direct movement and using a cursor to choose actions, but puzzle-solving is almost non-existent. Action sequences are quick-time events or mini-games under time pressure.
The episodes were released separately on some platforms initially, but later became available as part of a single package. For the Xbox One release, all five episodes were included from the start.
