This is a rhythm-action game where players use a dance mat controller to guide Mowgli through the jungle. The goal is to help Mowgli reach the Man Village safely while engaging in dancing and singing challenges, avoiding Shere Khan. Players must follow on-screen prompts to perform dance moves and progress through the story.
Story
Setting Up the Dance Mat Controller
Before turning on your PlayStation, insert the dance mat controller's connector into Controller Port 1. A second dance mat controller can be inserted into Controller Port 2 for two-player modes.
Now, switch your console on. Set up the game as normal, using the directional buttons of the dance mat controller in the same way as those for a normal controller. To make selections on the menus, press the button on the dance mat controller.
Warning!
Do not drop liquid on the electronics casing or on the cable.
Ensure that the cable is flat on the floor and is not tautly stretched, to facilitate movement around the dance mat controller.
As Walt Disney's Jungle Book Groove Party is fairly physical, make sure that you have enough space to move around the dance mat controller. Do not leave fragile, sharp, or pointed objects nearby.
Wear flat shoes. In the interest of personal safety and to avoid injury, socks or bare feet are not recommended.
The Story
I remember the day I found Mowgli, the mancub. He was lying in a basket, in the bottom of a barge that had run aground. There were no people anywhere in sight. I couldn't leave him alone; Mowgli was only an infant!
So, I carried Mowgli to the cave of a wolf by the name of Rama. He had a heart of gold. I knew without a doubt: Rama and the other wolves would look after him. But even then I knew that, one day, Mowgli would have to go back to his own kind. And that day has come...
Shere Khan the tiger has returned. He is dangerous, powerful, and he hates man: they are hunters of tigers, and Shere Khan is afraid of them. Shere Khan will never let Mowgli live to become a man. The wolves can no longer keep Mowgli with them.
The danger is too great. So, I have set myself the task of accompanying Mowgli to the Man Village where he will be safe.
Travelling with Mowgli through the jungle is not easy! He thinks only of dancing and singing boisterously! But, encounters in the jungle can sometimes be dangerous and terrifying... That is where Mowgli's destiny lies. Perhaps he will discover new feelings and skills that will make him more of a man and open up a new life for himself... if Shere Khan does not find him first...

How to Play
Playing the Game
Walt Disney's The Jungle Book Groove Party is a unique game. To win, you must dance better than your opponent. This requires rhythm, timing, and a good sense of music. With practice, you'll quickly become the "King of the Swingers."
The Basics
As music plays, arrows glide down the screen. Two circles at the bottom are the Beat Circles. When arrows reach these circles, press the corresponding button to lock the symbol. You earn points for each successfully locked arrow.
Points
The closer you are to the beat and music timing, the more points you earn. Arrows pass the Beat Circles, and the closer they are to the center when locked, the more points you get. Extra points can be earned by locking many arrows consecutively or by activating Power-Ups.
Beat-Circles Accuracy
There are 5 levels of accuracy, with more accurate presses earning more points.

Status
Your character's dance performance reflects your ability to enter arrows on the beat. Higher status means more spectacular dancing. As you improve, the color of the arrows will change.

RED: STUMBLE

NO ARROWS: FALL
Arrows start blue and change color as you score points.
Difficulty Levels
The game has four difficulty levels, each harder than the last, with more arrows falling faster. Completing Story Mode on Expert unlocks a fifth level: Crazy.
Combos
Locking 3 consecutive arrows triggers a "Combo." The combo grows as long as you don't miss an arrow. Special point bonuses are awarded throughout the combo and upon reaching certain levels of consecutive arrow locks. Longer combos yield bigger bonuses.
Power-Ups
In some game modes, "Power-Ups" can be triggered by entering an extra sequence of arrows between regular inputs. If you enter the activation sequence correctly, the Power-Up will flash below the Beat Circles. To activate it, correctly enter the next regular input. Each Power-Up has a unique effect. Focus on regular arrows before Power-Ups.
High Scores
If you achieve a high score, you'll be asked to enter your initials. These will be saved in the Temple of Fame for you to show friends and family.

Once initials are entered, press the [START] button.
Unlocking Songs and Characters
To unlock more songs and new characters for Versus Mode, you must complete Story Mode. Each time you complete a new level, its song and character become selectable in other game modes.
Mode Instructions
Choose a game mode from the Main Menu. Highlight your desired option and press the [X] button to select it.

Join Mowgli on his musical adventure across the jungle. Play alone or with a friend.
VS Mode
Allows you to play against an opponent.

Save/Load game. You can also personalize settings for sounds, controls, etc.
1. Story Mode
To Play Story Mode
•
Use the directional buttons to highlight the mode you wish to play (Single Player / Team Play).
•
Press the [X] button.
Note: In Single Player mode, your controller must be in Controller Port 1.
•
Choose your desired difficulty level: Easy, Normal, Hard, Expert, or Crazy.
•
Select the stage. If it's your first attempt, you'll start at the beginning.
Story Mode takes you through nine levels of Walt Disney's The Jungle Book Groove Party. Each environment has a unique look, and characters have different dancing styles. Mowgli must imitate all the animals to stay in the jungle.
Winning a Level
To advance to the next level, you must complete all 3 lessons.
Falling
Mowgli can only fall twice per level. If you fall a third time, you must restart the level.
Character Challenges
Character Challenges are special Power-Ups issued by the host characters of the level. Each good arrow-lock fills a special gauge, earning bonus points and triggering a special animation from the host character.
Boss Encounter
During your adventure, you'll confront King Louie and Shere Khan. To defeat them, use Power-Ups and make them fall three times. A timer under the Power-Up icon shows how much time you have to activate it. If you don't launch the Power-Up in time, it will drop on Mowgli, causing him to fall instead.
Team Play
This option allows you to play Story Mode with a friend. Both players control Mowgli. If one player misses an arrow, it turns orange and is sent to the other player, who can save it. If arrows are not saved, Mowgli's status will drop.

MOWGLI
Mowgli is full of boundless energy, agile, but stubborn and lacks wisdom. He is resourceful and bold, easily adapting to any dancing style.
BAGHEERA
Bagheera is sophisticated, noble, thoughtful, and generally good-tempered, though he scowls when things don't go as planned. He is very agile despite his noble restraint, with striking leaps and formidable hind legs in his dancing.
JUNIOR
Cheerful and kind, Junior is always optimistic and a model student, though his near-perfection is his biggest flaw. His dancing style is military tradition, with unaffected and efficient movements, and his trunk gives him a musical advantage.
BALOO
Baloo is strong but heavy, jovial but lazy, and optimistic but careless, often putting friends in danger. His nonchalance belies an instinctively fine dancer who uses his shape well and is music personified.
THE MONKEY
The Monkey loves to have fun and howl with laughter, living for jumping, running, making faces, and joking. He is the most agile of dancers, acrobatic and extremely quick, loving to perform dangerous moves.
KING LOUIE
King Louie is ambitious, wanting to learn the secret of fire to become a man, and is the king for everyone who likes to dance and have fun. He is the dancer with the best sense of rhythm, unequalled at creative improvisation.
KAA
Kaa is the master of hypnosis, putting animals to sleep to eat them, and his smile hides his evil intent. He is the most supple dancer, with flowing and mysterious movements, and his dance is a weapon.
BUZZY
Buzzy is a tender-hearted wanderer, gentle and sincere, who loves everyone but has an irritating sense of humor. He makes unexpected moves in his dancing, using all four limbs effectively, and is a pretty funny fellow.
SHERE KHAN
Shere Khan hates man, is determined and intelligent, making him a formidable enemy, and is proud of the fear he inspires. He is the most explosive dancer, aggressive, calculating, and dreams only of victory.
SHANTI
Shanti is the most marvellous being in the jungle, kindness incarnate, whose sweet and enchanting voice can soothe savage beasts. She is an accomplished and sophisticated dancer, loving to make complex, charming, but formidable movements.
Items & Weapons
REVERSE
This power-up totally reverses the flow of the arrows. All arrows must be entered in reverse since everything is displayed upside down.
INSTANT STUMBLE
Players instantly drop to the "STUMBLE" status when this power-up is activated. If you're already at this status, the power-up has no effect.
HIDE & SEEK
Leaves appear over the screen and hide the arrows momentarily.
DOUBLE TROUBLE
This power-up doubles the amount of arrows you need to lock down.
MAGIC EYE
A leaf appears over the screen and the arrows scroll without any direction. The direction of the arrows is revealed when they go under the leaf.
SCRAMBLER
Sequences go through the vase and come out scrambled and mixed up.
SPIN
This power-up makes the arrows rotate 90° with each passing beat.
INSTANT SUPER-COOL
Players instantly rise to the "SUPER COOL" status when this power-up is activated. If you're already at this status, the power-up has no effect.
AVALANCHE
When activated, this power-up makes an avalanche of arrows fall down the screen.
STROBOSCOPE
When active, this power-up will make the arrows flash on and off rapidly.
OFFBEAT
This power-up makes the arrows fall at a rate that's off-beat with the music.
FLOWER POWER
A shower of flowers explodes behind the interface during this power-up.
LIFT
This power-up makes the beat circles rise continuously towards the top of the screen.
FIREWALL
A wall of fire is created by this power-up, burning up the arrows. Really useful for racking up points without even trying!
TINY TINY
This power-up makes the arrows very small and harder to see.
POINT MULTIPLIER
When activated, this power-up multiplies the player's points by two.
EXTRA FALL
This power-up provides an additional fall icon. You can afford to fall over one extra time before you lose completely.
FALLING ROCKS
This is the power-up that must be activated to defeat King Louie.
LIGHTNING & FIRE
This is the power-up that must be activated to defeat Shere Khan.
POISON ARROWS
Poison arrows look similar to regular arrows, but they must be avoided. They are mixed throughout the regular arrows for the duration of the power-up.
