MDK is a 3D shoot 'em up where you play as Kurt, on a mission to save the world from alien invasion. Eight giant fortresses have been sent to destroy Earth, and it's up to you to stop them. You'll run and jump through six missions of strange 3D worlds, fighting off the "Stream Riders" with your machine gun arm.
The game requires precise platform jumps as part of the challenge. Kurt is equipped with a special battle suit that includes a parachute and a sniper interface embedded in his helmet, allowing for precise shooting while standing still. As you progress through the game, further weaponry enhancements are available to aid you in your mission.

Game Guide
Extracted from the original game manual
This is a sci-fi action game where the player, Kurt, must defend Earth from an alien invasion. Equipped with experimental gadgets and weapons, the player engages in combat to destroy alien mining cities and their leaders. The core gameplay involves using a sniper rifle with bullet-cam technology and other unique inventions to eliminate threats.
Story
Journal Entry: November 7, 1999
Never could I have imagined that studying Flange Orbits with Kurt would lead to this. It was supposed to be a five-day mission, but we've been in my home-built spaceship for years.
The Flange Orbits weren't as interesting as I thought, so I had plenty of time for other inventions. Kurt was getting sullen about missing his TV shows.
My first project was a robot to help with chores. Unfortunately, a programming error caused it to run amok, and Kurt had to blast it.
After the robot, I created a genetically-engineered worker dog. I named him Bones, though Kurt calls him Max. He turned out well, despite having six arms.
Bones was the one who first noticed the streams. We spotted them on the outer fringes of the solar system.
When the first stream hit Earth, we realized what they were. A mysterious alien race called "Streamriders," led by Gunter Glut, are using these streams to attack inhabited worlds.
They've sent huge mobile mining cities down to Earth, seemingly after the potato crop or rich mineral deposits. They are running over cities, leaving scorched ground.
Earth's defenses are shattered. Max, Kurt, and I are humanity's only hope. I've elected Kurt as hero, equipped with my inventions and Max's help.

Kurt's Instruction Manual by Dr. Fluke Hawkins
All right my boy, let's get started. I have assembled a few bits and pieces for you.
Dr. Hawkins "Amazing" Coil Suit
Due to hostile environments and aliens shooting at anything that moves, I thought you could use mobile armor plating that doesn't chafe. This is a special and tough suit.
Dr. Hawkins "Ineffable" Sniper Gun
•
Press the Select button to activate.
You can attach the chain-gun to your faceplate, and it morphs into a long-range sniper gun. This is another one of my almost-tested inventions. It was originally for bird spotting, but I merged it with my sniper rifle.
The automatic target and firing system wasn't helpful for birds. But, as you know, some of the best inventions come from failed attempts.
The sniper gun has been modified for maximum control. Once locked into position, you can zoom in on goobers and blast them.
MAX
Bones keeps nagging me to go with you, but I decided he should stay here. Who knows the mayhem he would cause? Besides, without his help, the sniper gun wouldn't have the three "Bullet Cams" above the crosshairs.
Bullet Cam "Ineffable Sniper Gun"
•
Helmet
•
Chaingun
•
Nose Cone
We built a mini camera on the end of each projectile, so you can view its path of destruction. Be careful, such close devastation can get pretty gory.
Mission: Deliver Kindness (or Stop the Big Mine Crawlers)
Intelligence Report
Our intelligence sources (me and Bones/MAX) indicate each Mining City has a master "driver." To stop the destruction, you must get to the end of the city and revoke his license, or rather, blow his brains out.
This should stop the Miner's rampaging path of devastation and send them back through the stream.
Time Considerations
The longer you take to complete your mission, the more people will die. No pressure, though. Just focus on the job and push those roaming alien slime-buckets off our planet.
If you fail (not that you will, Bones and I have confidence in you), I can get right to work on my Mars Colonization Project. It's just a backup! You'll do fine.
Entry
Your initial departure involves an extended free fall into Earth's atmosphere. The suit protects you from re-entry burns, but you must avoid enemy radar detection. If they lock on, you'll hit the ground as ashes.
Extraction
I haven't figured out how to get you back up here yet. With all the inventing, planning, and redesigning, I haven't gotten to it. The good news is that by the time you stop the Streamrider invasion, I should have this last kink figured out.
If you can handle all of the above, you're ready to go.
The World's Most Interesting Bomb
•
L2 button to select
•
O button to use/activate
This technology came from my research in motivating children to eat vegetables. Now it's useful for popping off alien invaders' heads. Just toss the bomb and watch them run to it!
They may be ruthless scavengers, but they can't avoid the bomb's alluring elements. I've added sections that resemble the aliens themselves, so you won't fall under its hypnotic spell.
If I come up with anything else, I'll have you test it "in the field." I'll try to make a holographic projector to give you clues about weapon functions. All weapons will passively or aggressively separate invaders from their living status.
Well, Kurt, it's all up to you now. Don't worry about Bones and me

Enemies & Characters
GRUNT
This low-ranking alien is the basic soldier you will run across most often. They often cower in terror but may also attack suddenly.
GRUNT COMMANDER
The Grunt Commander is much tougher and smarter than the basic Grunt. He can attack from a distance with a rapid-fire laser or blue electro-ray, and also has a charging attack that leaves flames behind him.
SENTRY
Commonly placed at key doors or guarding valuable items, this huge robot is constantly searching for intruders. A sniper-shot through one of his eyes is a faster, though more difficult, solution to destroy it.
XT SENTRY
This is a modified version of the normal Sentry robot, often used in conjunction with Alert Droids. The XT Sentry has a powerful radar and a missile rack that can fire multiple rockets at different angles to destroy an intruder.
ALERT DROID
Alert Droids patrol out-of-the-way areas and have no weapons, but sound an alarm that brings tons of other aliens running. It's best to deal with these troublesome pests from a long distance away.
MYTES
These dog-like creatures often run in packs and are favored pets of many of the more sophisticated aliens. They are quick and deadly, but easy to kill from a distance.
BOMBER JETS
Flown by the aliens' most skilled pilots, these ships carry powerful explosives that can destroy whole buildings. Some of these bombers can be contacted by a remote control device located on the ground.
FORKLIFT
Low-ranking aliens use these items to move crates and supplies around the mining cities. While not designed as combat vehicles, they can be very dangerous due to their tough armor and speed.
Items & Weapons
MAX's Coil Suit
This suit is made from revolutionary materials and is designed to repel direct hits from enemy fire and fast-moving projectiles, though they may still leave a welt.
Dr. Hawkins “incredible" Ribbon Chute
This untested invention is located on your back and can be opened and retracted as often as you like to prevent you from hitting the ground.
Dr. Hawkins "Extraordinary" Chain-Gun
Fashioned from old seagull beaks, this handheld weapon uses patented "gyroscope" technology to adjust and fit onto your helmet.
The Very Large Hamster Hammer
This item creates a smashing success that vibrates the ground in a 12.9 (Richter scale) simulated earthquake when launched.
The Dummy Decoy
Designed and hand-painted to perfection, this decoy can be thrown out to confuse aliens, making them unsure which is the real Kurt.
