Captain America and the Avengers is a one- to four-player side-scrolling beat 'em up where four Marvel Comics licensed heroes (Captain America, Iron Man, Hawkeye and Vision) team up to take down the evil Red Skull. The game's story revolves around the Red Skull's plan to conquer the world by assembling a team of super-villains.
The gameplay is focused on side-scrolling brawler action, but some levels also feature shooting stages where the heroes battle enemies in different environments such as air, under the sea, and space. The game has five stages and features various boss villains that the players must defeat to progress through the game.
