During what appears to be a normal day, Rayman Origins takes place in the Glade of Dreams, where Rayman and his friends are chillin' on a giant tree. However, their constant snoring disturbs an old granny from the Land of the Livid Dead, leading her to send an army of evil creatures across the land, capturing all Electoons and Nymphs that populate the world in the process. As Rayman and his friends are captured, they must flee their prison and attempt to bring order back to the Glade of Dreams before it's too late.
Rayman Origins is a reboot of the Rayman franchise, returning to the series' 2D platforming roots. Its gameplay combines elements from classic Mario-style games and the first Rayman game, featuring many original characters and enemies. Various characters from Rayman 2: The Great Escape also make an appearance, such as Globox, Teensies, and Lums.
The game's atmosphere has a very "wacky" feel to it, with a focus on rescuing as many Electoons as possible. Each area is heavily guarded by creatures from the Land of the Livid Dead, along with other enemies. A multiplayer option allows for up to four players, feeling similar to contemporary Mario games. Players can choose to play as Rayman, Globox, or two Teensies.
