The story of Xeodrifter follows Nomad, the main character, who is left stranded after his spaceship's warp drive is damaged. With no clear way to repair it, Nomad sets out to explore a cluster of four planets in the Omega sector in search of a new core.
Gameplay revolves around navigating through the planets, exploring each one for collectibles and resources. The player can choose which planet to visit next, save their progress, or land on the planet they are currently on. Upgrades and custom gun enhancements can be equipped using collected items, extending Nomad's health and combat abilities.
