Bust-A-Move 4 is a puzzle game that follows the same gameplay as its predecessors. The player's goal is to release colored bubbles and match them to make them disappear. In this installment, players can choose from new characters and engage in a Story mode, where winning Tarot cards is rewarded after completing each stage. The story unfolds as the player defeats CPU-controlled characters, with different opponents depending on the starting character chosen.
The game also features Win Contest mode, which challenges the player to win as many games as possible against the computer. Completing Challenge mode, a series of fast-paced puzzles, unlocks Edit mode, where players can create and share their own custom puzzles for competition with others.
