The Ghostbusters from the 1984 film have a new challenge in Ghostbusters , an action game released on the Sega Master System. Based on the original movie, the Ghostbusters must track down and capture ghosts that have invaded New York City. A sudden surge in paranormal activity has increased the city's ghost power to critical levels, threatening to unleash an evil goddess called Gozer from the Temple of Zuul.
Ghostbusters features both overhead and side-view gameplay. From the Ghostbusters HQ, players must navigate through a map of midtown Manhattan to locate "ghost alarms" and casual spirits. As they approach these areas, they'll control the purchased Ghostmobile as it drives through traffic, capturing casual ghosts along the way. In side-view mode, two Ghostbusters will battle ghostly entities, using proton beams and traps to capture them. Successful captures earn rewards, while failures see the ghosts escape, leaving a trail of slime.
As players progress, they'll need to keep the city's PK energy in check by capturing ghosts regularly. If successful, they'll be able to enter the Temple of Zuul for a final showdown with Gozer. With each capture, they can upgrade their vehicles and equipment, preparing for the ultimate battle against evil.
