Space Invaders is a remake of the 1994 arcade game Space Invaders DX , featuring classic mode where players can choose from different arcade cabinets as backgrounds, and versus mode for two players in split-screen. Players compete to eliminate more invaders than their opponent.
The Game Boy version features one- and two-player modes using standard tones, but playing through a Super Game Boy allows access to all four cabinet types of the SNES version. The PC Engine (TurboGrafx) CD version includes additional "cosmic versus" mode with anime-style backgrounds and an "omake mode" single-player variant.
The WonderSwan version lacks some cabinet types but retains the versus mode, allowing for competitive gameplay against a friend or opponent.
