Space Invaders is a remake of the classic arcade game, and it's based on alien technology recovered during an invasion in 1978. The story follows Earth's successful repulsion of the aliens' return, with the player taking on the role of a new Tank created from the recovered tech.
The gameplay stays close to its roots while adding power-ups and enemies. Players can choose to play solo or dual-player against the Invaders, who march down the screen in orderly rows and columns. The game takes place across three planets - Pluto, Mars, Venus, and Earth - with four common aliens (red, green, blue, and yellow) and seven less common ones.
The gameplay features special power-ups that can be obtained by shooting four of the same type of Invader in a row. Additionally, Mother Ships fly above the action, which can drop useful power-ups like shields or double shots if hit. After fighting off several waves on each planet, players face unique bosses and must complete the game to play a reproduction of the original coin-op.
Space Invaders was released for the Game Boy Advance in 2002 and is a new take on the classic arcade experience with added features and challenges.
