Planes: Fire & Rescue is set in Piston Peak Park during fire season. The park is threatened by fires, and it's up to Dusty and his team of firefighting vehicles to save the day. They include Lil’ Dipper, Windlifter, and Blade. As they respond to emergencies, they must use their skills to scoop water, lift boulders, guide stranded vehicles, airlift hikers, and call in smoke jumpers to clear debris.

The gameplay is action-packed and varied, with 30 different Training Academy missions to complete and 12 emergency call story missions. You must work quickly to complete tasks and earn medals based on your completion time. The faster you are, the higher your medal will be: Bronze, Silver or Gold.
