Space Invaders is back in action, and this time it's been revamped by Activision for the PlayStation console. The story takes place in the aftermath of the 1978 alien invasion that was repelled by "the Tank," a machine based on recovered technology from an alien scout ship. Now, over two decades later, a new generation of Invaders has arrived, and Earth is facing a new threat.
Space Invaders is an arcade game remake with power-ups and new enemies added to the classic formula. You can play solo or join forces with a friend in multiplayer mode, competing against the Invaders at one of three skill levels. As you progress through the Solar System, you'll encounter four common aliens and seven more rare ones.
The gameplay remains largely faithful to the original, but with some key enhancements. You'll receive special power-ups by shooting multiple Invaders in a row, including shields and double shots. Additionally, facing off against Mother Ships can net you extra rewards like shields or increased firepower. Conquering each planet's unique challenge will culminate in a showdown with a one-of-a-kind boss.
Space Invaders is available now for the PlayStation console, offering fans of classic arcade games a chance to experience the thrill of this iconic title once again.
