The game's Franchise mode now includes "The Farm," where aspiring owners can scout and evaluate minor league players by playing full games with AAA clubs. Additionally, both the graphics engine and MLB roster have been updated to improve overall presentation. The game also features "Inside Edge," a feature from last year's installment that boosts player abilities through strength, with 150 animations added to mimic real-life stars' signature styles.

The fielding system has been redesigned, featuring a dynamic throwing system, while online play is available for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions. A mini-game allows players to have their manager argue with the umpire by tapping a button.
