Cars is a racing game based on the movie of the same name, allowing players to explore the world of Radiator Springs and surrounding areas in an open-world mission-based structure. The story revolves around Lightning McQueen's quest to become a famous racer and compete in the Piston Cup, equivalent to NASCAR races. Players can roam freely, talk to other characters, and accept race challenges to advance the story.
Gameplay features over 20 Road Races in Story Mode, as well as 5 Piston Cup Races and additional mini-games. The player earns bonus points in Story Mode, which can be used to unlock bonus content such as boost abilities, new racers, new environments, and mini-games like an obstacle course or military training events. An Arcade Menu provides quick access to races unlocked from Story Mode, while a VS. Mode allows head-to-head competition.
