Guitar Hero Live is an entry in the Guitar Hero series and a reboot of the franchise after the hiatus following Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock in 2010. The core concept is identical: players use a plastic guitar peripheral to play the guitar sections of songs by following the cues on the screen and pressing the matching buttons on the instrument in time. The game features a new presentation style, with each song played from the perspective of the guitarist during a real-world concert setting using full motion video footage. The camera shifts between watching and interacting with the band members and the audience, with dynamic transitions based on the player's performance.
The gameplay is centered around playing notes on a scrolling "highway" in the centre of the screen, while also utilizing the strum bar. Each song can be played in multiple difficulty levels, with increasing complexity as you progress. Power chords use the top row and Hero Power (previously called Star Power) can be collected by correctly playing a specific series of blue notes on a track.
Completing songs unlocks new tracks and allows access to Quick Play mode. The game also features an online multiplayer mode, Guitar Hero TV, which streams songs from multiple channels and offers regular updates with new content. Players can earn points, level up, and unlock new items for their player card, as well as access premium channels with rotating challenges.
Guitar Hero Live was released on Xbox One in 2015, offering a unique blend of music gameplay and real-world concert atmosphere.
