Foes of Ali is a 3-D boxing game with ten different boxers to choose from: George Chuvalo, Henry Cooper, Jimmy Ellis, Bob Foster, Joe Frazier, Sonny Liston, Ken Norton, Leon Spinks, Chuck Wepner and Muhammad Ali.

The game has three modes to play. In the Exhibition mode, you can choose any boxer to fight another or play one of Ali's historic fights. The Tournament mode is an 8-man tournament tree where players can become champion by fighting a series of boxers. In the Career Mode , you can only play as Muhammad Ali and fight the other boxers in order as he did in real life.

The gameplay involves basic punch moves, jabs, uppercuts, and hooks along with defensive moves like blocking and grabbing. Players can slow down their opponents after a series of large successful hits or get bruised, bloodied, and black eyes. The game also features 21 different camera views, including first-person, which reacts to the player's fighter getting hit.

Before each fight, championship photos of each boxer are shown, and commentary is provided by Tim Gammon.
