In Hatris , the falling blocks of hats are replaced by falling hats that require players to stack them on one of six mannequin heads. The setting is a hat factory, where hats are dropped down from a conveyor belt two at a time and must be stacked correctly. Once five hats of the same kind have been stacked on top of each other, they fall down onto another conveyor belt below and earn the player a cash bonus. As players progress through the game, they will encounter increasingly difficult levels with more types of hats.
The gameplay is straightforward: players must stack the hats in the correct order to clear the screen. The NES version of the game also features an aid system, where players can receive assistance from the avatars of Alexey Pajhitnov or Vladimir Pokhilko. This aid can be earned by completing sets of hat types and allows players to temporarily remove obstacles or swap columns.
The Game Boy version of Hatris does not feature an aid system, unlike some other versions. Instead, players must rely on their own skills to stack the hats correctly. The game's difficulty increases as players progress through levels, with more types of hats appearing and new obstacles being introduced.
Hatris was released in 1991 for the Game Boy console and has since become a classic puzzle game. With its simple yet challenging gameplay, Hatris is a must-play for fans of puzzle games.
