Ecco the Dolphin takes you on a thrilling adventure through time as you control Ecco, the dolphin who escaped a giant whirlpool and is now destined to save his pod. With the help of an Atlantean time machine, you must travel through space and meet the mystical Asterite to defeat the Vortex Queen. The journey won't be easy, as you'll face various obstacles such as islands, volcanoes, powerful currents, and deadly predators.

The gameplay in Ecco the Dolphin focuses on exploration of nonlinear aquatic levels, each with its unique challenges. You'll need to use your sonar ability to navigate through submerged caverns and tunnels, communicate with friendly animals, and activate glyphs to unlock new paths. The sonar also has defensive functions, allowing you to defeat enemies and gain invincibility.

Managing Ecco's life and breath meters is crucial, as he can't stay underwater for too long. Keep an eye on his health, as losing it will require replaying the level from the beginning. However, eating fish or finding healing clams can replenish his energy. With strategy and quick reflexes, you'll be able to overcome most enemies and progress through the game.
