Tales of Phantasia tells the story of Cless, a young boy living in a quiet village with his parents. His life takes a dramatic turn when he discovers a talking tree while hunting with his friend Chester. The tree's pleas for help are cut short by an alarm, and they soon find their village burnt to the ground and its inhabitants murdered. As Cless' mother dies in his arms, she reveals that the massacre is connected to a pendant given to him on his birthday.
Tales of Phantasia is a Japanese-style role-playing game with an action-based combat system. The player controls one character directly, while other party members are controlled by AI. Battles take place on separate side-scrolling screens and can be paused at any time to use magic, items, or strategy.
Tales of Phantasia was released for the Game Boy Advance in 2003.
