Speedball , released in 1990, is a futuristic sports game where you play as the manager of a team competing in two divisions and two cup tournaments. As the manager, your goal is to transform the fortunes of the team by advancing through the league system and winning cups.
The gameplay is fast-paced and frantic, with heavy tackling encouraged to retrieve the ball. You control two 90-second periods, with power-ups and tokens appearing on the pitch, including ones that make players extra-tough or freeze opponents. The sides of the pitch have score multipliers that can increase scoring value if you run the ball through them.
Collecting silver tokens during matches earns money, which can be spent to improve existing players or buy new ones. There are also special tokens that boost your team's power for short periods or freeze the opposition. Managing your team effectively and making strategic decisions is key to success in Speedball .
The game features two cup tournaments with a two-leg format, where the aggregate score decides who progresses. With its unique blend of action and strategy, Speedball offers a thrilling experience for fans of sports games.
