Dimps Corporation was established by former SNK and Capcom employees, including Takashi Nishiyama. The studio is highly regarded for developing the Sonic Advance series for Sega and the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai series for Bandai Namco. They have also frequently co-developed major fighting game titles with Capcom, such as Street Fighter IV.
Headquartered in Toyonaka, Osaka Prefecture, the studio quickly secured major publishing partnerships following its inception. Its earliest projects focused on handheld consoles, notably producing
Sonic the Hedgehog Pocket Adventure and the crossover fighting game
SNK vs. Capcom: Match of the Millennium (released in Japan as
SNK vs. Capcom: Choujou Kessen Saikyou Fighters) for SNK's Neo Geo Pocket Color in 1999.
Building on this foundation, the developer strengthened its relationship with Sega through the creation of
Sonic Advance,
Sonic Advance 2, and
Sonic Advance 3 for the Game Boy Advance. The company also expanded into 3D anime-based fighting games, developing titles such as
Saint Seiya: Battle Sanctuary. Beyond licensed properties, the studio created original intellectual properties like the 2D arcade fighting game series
The Rumble Fish. Over the decades, the developer has maintained a steady output of high-profile fighting games and action titles across multiple console generations, establishing a reputation for precise gameplay mechanics and faithful adaptations of popular media franchises.
