Asura's Wrath is an action game where the player controls the titular Asura, one of the eight elite demigods. He leads a legion to fight against the Gohma, a race of beasts that roam Earth. The Gohma were a natural phenomenon to combat the power of Shinkoku Trastrium, a civilization that unified all nations. The game's story is split into three parts with 18 episodes in total.
The main gameplay involves third-person fighting and melee combat with a focus on chaining attacks into combos. Asura has different attacks, including dive attacks and counterattacks. He also has a ranged cannon that can lock onto enemies. By inflicting and receiving damage, the player fills up an Unlimited gauge near the top of the screen. Once full, it can be activated for Unlimited mode, providing more strength and no overheating.
The game features rail shooter sequences where Asura soars through the skies, attacking and evading projectiles. The gameplay also includes cinematic events that require direct input from the player, which appear during gameplay, static cinematics, or flight sequences. These quick-time events are rated based on accuracy and speed, and missing them can cause Asura to die or lose health.
