Tetris 4D , a standard Tetris game released in Japan shortly after the Sega Dreamcast launched, offers a classic solitaire experience with two modes: Classic and Battle.
In Classic mode, players rotate and fit falling blocks to complete lines, with five difficulty settings available that adjust speed and piece preview settings. The sound and graphics follow a modern urban/industrial theme, featuring five techno music choices, including a variation of the classic Tetris "Karinka". The 3D backgrounds are basic but shift viewpoint as levels progress.
Battle mode is a multiplayer option for two to four players. One player starts off flagged, and blocks push up from the bottom as other players make lines. When one player makes enough lines themselves, the flag moves to another player. Difficulty can be set independently to allow for handicaps.
However, it's disappointing that Battle mode cannot be played against the computer, and there is no VMU support for saving high scores, a crucial omission for this type of game.
