Mega Man Battle Network 5: Team Colonel is the fifth entry to the Battle Network series, where Lan and his friend Mega Man return to fight against a mysterious group distributing Dark Navi chips. This sequel takes place after the events of the previous game and sees Lan and friends trying to stop this problem before it gets out of hand.
The game features an RPG-style over-world where Lan and Mega Man navigate and interact, while in real life you control Lan , interacting with objects and talking to people. When you need to enter cyberspace, you 'jack-in', taking control of Mega Man, who must battle viruses as well as navigate the internet. You can use a combination of action and turn-based battles, selecting powerful chips to gain an edge each turn, then using them in real-time.
The game also includes Liberation Missions, which are more traditional turn-based play. In this mode, you must 'liberate' dark tiles on your way to confront the boss. These missions play like a complicated game of chess, with the player fighting battles between pieces.
