PHANTASY STAR I
The Story
Space Century 342 finds us on Camineet on Palma, one of three planets in the Algol Solar System located deep in the Andromeda galaxy. Under the democratic rule of King Lassic, life was good as he provided everything his people could want. Space travel had been discovered 200 years prior, allowing colonization of Motavia and Dezoris.
Dark priests of a new religion promised immortality to all who joined. King Lassic, getting old, became the first to join and subsequently changed into an evil tyrant. Horrible creatures began to stalk all three worlds, causing the people to suffer.
Lassic's Robotcops ruthlessly hunted do-gooders like Nero. Nero's father had disappeared trying to learn Lassic's secrets, and the Robotcops eventually caught Nero as well. Before dying, Nero passed his short sword and quest to his sister, Alis, instructing her to find a brave fighter named Odin. Alis raised the sword to the sky, vowing that Nero's death would not be in vain.
The Algol Solar System
To defeat Lassic, you must explore the entire Algol Solar System. Each planet offers a distinct environment and history.
Palma
Palma is similar to our own world, featuring dense forests, deep lakes, rivers, and wide open areas. It is an old, fully developed planet where the Palmans use space travel to reach Motavia and Dezoris.
Motavia
Motavia is a planet just starting to be colonized by the Palmans, featuring a Spaceport for ships shuttling people and minerals back to Palma. It travels in an irregular path, often sitting very close to the sun, resulting in a topography like Earth's deserts.
The landscape includes dry, barren, sandy areas, scattered oasis, mountains, and deadly poison gas fields.
Dezoris
Dezoris is the planet farthest from the sun, always cold with a surface covered in ice and snow. Bitter cold and permafrost have kept its development slow.
Once every generation, the entire planet experiences a 10-day eclipse. During this time, native Dezorians light special torches, which are considered holy and used for year-round magic ceremonies of growth.
Towns and Villages
Each planet has towns and villages where people and aliens live, featuring houses and various building types.
•
Houses: People are everywhere. Talk to those in their homes or on the streets to find out information about the countryside, other villages, or important items.
•
Hospital: Visit a hospital to replenish hit points. There is no health insurance; the fee is based on the amount of hit points restored.
•
Church: Churches serve a dual purpose. They can resurrect friends who died in battle, and you can ask how many experience points are needed to advance to the next level.
•
Shops: Towns contain three types of shops selling various equipment and items. Entering each displays a list of available items and prices.
•
Weapons and Armor Shop: Upgrade your armor and weapons. Since you start with little protection, save money for the right outfit.
•
Secondhand Shop: Buy tools and sell items you no longer need for money.
•
Fast Food Shop: Buy Burgers, Cola, and Potions (Polymtal). Save these for when hit points are low and no hospital is nearby.
PHANTASY STAR II
The Story
Drifting in space is the Algo Star System, with its three children-Palm, Mota, and Dezo-orbiting the parent star, Algo. Mota's history is troubled, marked by the legend of Alis, who rid the planet of the evil oppressor Lassic.
Now another tragedy oppresses Mota, one far worse than Lassic because it is an unknown evil affecting climate, machinery, and nature. Strange, vicious creatures infest the countryside, terrifying and destroying everything. No one ventures outside cities unless they do not plan to return.
Questions remain: What happened to Mother Brain, the controlling entity on Mota? Why have things gone so wrong? Who is smart enough to solve the riddle, and who is brave enough to save the planet?
Places and Buildings
•
Home: You live here. Visitors will show up over time, some of whom you may want to recruit. Home is your safe house, ideal for resting or accounting for your strength and resources.
•
Central Tower: Located in Paseo, the capital city of Mota, this is where you received your assignment from the Commander. It hosts many city services, like the Library.
•
Clone Labs: Characters who fall in battle can be resurrected here. The clerk produces an exact copy of the dead character, retaining memory, experience, and possessions. The whole party can be cloned as long as one member survives.
•
Teleport Station: This station uses "Object Transfer" technology, reading the memory of the traveler to teleport you to a chosen city. However, you must have visited a city on foot before you can teleport there later.
•
Data Memory: This vault keeps all important information up to date. The clerk provides updates on experience points needed for level increases and saves your progress.
Saving a Game
To save your game, go to the Data Memory. Answer YES when the clerk asks if you want to save. Choose a label from the Choose Name Screen, then tell the clerk which position (1 or 2) you want to save to.
