PLAYING THE GAME
There are two different game modes, FULL RACE and TIME ATTACK. We'll talk about the game modes later, but first we'll discuss the basics of the game.
TRACK SELECTION
Selecting a track to race on is done in the same manner as Car Selection. The only difference is that you won't be able to view the track until you actually race on it.
Initially, there is one track open. The rest are locked and you will not be able to unlock them until you start winning on tracks. Once you have won a race, a previously locked track will then be available to you. There are 9 tracks to race on in all.
CAR SELECTION
There are 5 immediately selectable cars to choose from. Press Left and Right on the Control Pad to highlight the different vehicles on the dial.
When you are happy with one, press the A Button to continue on to Track Selection.
STEERING AND DRIVING
Depending upon what Steering setting you chose in the Options Menu, accurately steering your car is very important. Each track is loaded with sharp turns and steep drops.
Follow the arrows that line the tracks to correctly navigate through them. You may notice arrows that point towards walls or tunnels. These are shortcuts and if you can make the turn in time, you'll jump ahead of the pack. It's up to you to maintain the lead though!
Along the way, you'll find additional help in the form of power-ups.
POWER-UPS
Each track features numerous power-ups to help you get ahead of the competition. You'll have to adjust your speed at times (A and B Buttons) in order to get them.
To activate a power-up, turn your car into them on the track. Here's what they are and what they can do for you.
FLAMING TIRE
When activated, this power-up will give you a quick but powerful boost of speed.
WRENCH
The Wrench icon will give your car better handling.
GAME MODES
There are two different game modes to choose from at the Main Menu. Here's a description of how each one is played.
FULL RACE MODE
Full Race Mode puts you on the track to race against AI cars. You can select whatever car and unlocked track you want to race with. The object of course is to come in First Place.
By finishing first you can unlock more tracks. Remember to look for the shortcuts and power-ups on each track. Try to find as many as you can, you'll need the help!
TIME ATTACK MODE
Selecting TIME ATTACK allows you to race for the best times you can. You can pick any car and whatever tracks you have unlocked to race with.
There are no AI (Artificial Intelligence) cars on the track, only you and the clock. You can set the number of laps you want to race in the Options Menu. Time Attack Mode is also a great way to practice some racing strategies to use on Full Race Mode.
